Capping off the night was another hotly contested battle between the Bay Area and Sacramento All-Stars. The 2017 contest concluded with Sacramento taking home a 2-point victory, and the 2018 Bay Area squad was determined to not give Sacramento a 2-0 record in the series. Using a full court press and toughness, the Bay Area All-Stars came from behind to win at the buzzer on a layup by University of Washington-bound Elijah Hardy of Bishop O'Dowd! In the end the scoreboard read 116 - 114 making it two years in a row the game was decided by only 2 points!
South Dakota-bound Nathan Robinson of Las Lomas High came away with Player of the Game honors dropping 36 points in the win. Robinson showed his all-around abilities by draining seven 3-pointers, sex 2-pointers and three free-throws. His efficiency in the game made him an easy choice as Player of the Game.
Another standout performer was Georgetown-bound James Akinjo of Salesian College Prep. His one-on-one battle in the 2nd half with his Sacramento rivals showed that this was not your typical All-Star Game. Akinjo finished with 24 points, but most importantly the game tying 3 pointer that was the biggest basket of the day!
With the game winner and 17 points, Elijah Hardy was also a notable performer in an epic game vs Sacramento that is bound to be talked about for years to come.
Sacramento was lead by a balanced attack with five players scoring in double digits. Sharshooter Chris Simpson of Jesuit High seemed as if he could not miss, making seven 3-pointers on way to 21 points. Harvard-bound Mason Forbes of Folsom High lead the Sacramento team with 23 points along with 6 rebounds and shot altering defense. Christopher Cagle, Zach Chappell and Junior Toure all finished with 17, 16, and 16 points respectively. Running the show was Sheldon standout and Sacramento Player of the Year, Dale Currie, who dropped 7 assists, grabbed 8 rebounds to go along with 3 steals.
The series is currently tied at 1-1 and we can only look forward to what 2019 brings!
