2018 ALL NORCAL GAMES

Event Recap

The 2nd Annual All NorCal Games took place April 1st, 2018 at Las Positas College in Livermore, CA.  With 5 games, 8 total events and over 120 participants from Bakersfield to Chico, covering 400 miles, we are proud to call it the Largest All-Star Event for High School Boys & Girls Basketball on the West Coast!  An exciting day with competitive games, including a buzzer beater and an overtime game, we feel this event is unique and memorable for all those involved.  Each game has it's own homepage, but here is a recap of this year's event!

Middle School All-Star Game

Our newest addition to the All NorCal Games was the boys Middle School All-Star Game. Featuring 20 players from Northern California we were excited to give this group of youngsters a platform to showcase the future of NorCal Basketball.

The Blue Team was victorious over Gold by a score of 87-80.

King-Jhsanni Wilhite, a seventh-grader from Aptos Middle School in San Francisco, made his first four 3-point shots from deep.  He finished with a game high 28 points and three assists.

Ronald Jones Jr. added a huge double-double. The 6-4 eighth-grader from Bay Technology School in Oakland had 17 points and 24 rebounds with three assists and three blocks.  To add to his impressive game he was also 7-of-8 from the free-throw line.

Wilhite was named the Player of the Game while Jones Jr. was the Defensive Player of the Game.

Girls Central Valley vs South Valley All-Star Game

The South Valley took it's only lead by starting the game 3-0, but it was all Central Valley the rest of the way with a 93-49 victory in favor of the ladies from the San Joaquin & Stanislaus Counties.

Aquira DeCosta of St. Mary's (Stockton) and Baylor-bound McDonald's All-American showed her versatility with 10 points, 13 rebounds, 7 assists, 4 steals and 4 blocks.  With such a dominating all-around performance, DeCosta was an easy choice for Player of the Game.

Ariel Johnson, another St. Mary's product and future Florida Gator earned Defensive Player of the Game after going for 13 points and six rebounds.  Another St. Mary's product and Princeton-bound standout, Neenah Young led all scorers with 15.

Cal-bound standout and McDonald's All-American McKenzie Forbes could have been an easy choice for the game's top performer had they pulled out a victory.  Forbes finished with 27 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists.

Boys Central Valley vs South Valley All-Star Game

This game was so exciting it was featured on KTVU Fox and ESPN!  Central Valley came away with a 128-110 victory over their foes from as far south as Bakersfield, but it wasn't before Tyler Williams of Modesto Christian made arguably, the Play of the Year in Northern California with his off the backboard alley oop to himself!

This game was another competitive one!  Both teams were loaded with talent, but in the end the size and athleticism  of Central Valley, along with a 49-36 rebounding margin, that gave the squad from the Stanislaus and San Joaquin counties the edge.

Michael Hayes of West High and Las Positas College commit, was dominant with a 27 point, 7 rebound, 6 assist and 2 steal stat line.  Six other players scored in double digits but the defense of Chico State-bound Joshua Hamilton of Central Catholic earned him Defensive Player of the Game honors.

For the South Valley All-Stars it was Loyola Marymount-bound Dameane Douglas Jr of San Joaquin Memorial that led all scorers and rebounders with a 32 & 9 stat line.    Sharpshooter Nathan Kendricks of Immanuel also cracked 20 points with a 21 point performance while also winning the Dr. Dish 3-point contest.

Boys Bay Area vs Sacramento All-Star Game

Capping off the night was another hotly contested battle between the Bay Area and Sacramento All-Stars.   The 2017 contest concluded with Sacramento taking home a 2-point victory, and the 2018 Bay Area squad was determined to not give Sacramento a 2-0 record in the series.   Using a full court press and toughness, the Bay Area All-Stars came from behind to win at the buzzer on a layup by University of Washington-bound Elijah Hardy of Bishop O'Dowd!   In the end the scoreboard read 116 - 114 making it two years in a row the game was decided by only 2 points!

South Dakota-bound Nathan Robinson of Las Lomas High came away with Player of the Game honors dropping 36 points in the win.  Robinson showed his all-around abilities by draining seven 3-pointers, sex 2-pointers and three free-throws.   His efficiency in the game made him an easy choice as Player of the Game.

Another standout performer was Georgetown-bound James Akinjo of Salesian College Prep.  His one-on-one battle in the 2nd half with his Sacramento rivals showed that this was not your typical All-Star Game.   Akinjo finished with 24 points, but most importantly the game tying 3 pointer that was the biggest basket of the day!

With the game winner and 17 points, Elijah Hardy was also a notable performer in an epic game vs Sacramento that is bound to be talked about for years to come.

Sacramento was lead by a balanced attack with five players scoring in double digits.  Sharshooter Chris Simpson of Jesuit High seemed as if he could not miss, making seven 3-pointers on way to 21 points. Harvard-bound Mason Forbes of Folsom High lead the Sacramento team with 23 points along with 6 rebounds and shot altering defense.  Christopher Cagle, Zach Chappell and Junior Toure all finished with 17, 16, and 16 points respectively.  Running the show was Sheldon standout and Sacramento Player of the Year, Dale Currie, who dropped 7 assists, grabbed 8 rebounds to go along with 3 steals.

The series is currently tied at 1-1 and we can only look forward to what 2019 brings!
